How it all started for Honda

Honda began its story in 1948 after its founder, Soichiro Honda, saw the need for Japan to become mobile quickly and cheaply after the second world war. By attaching a motor generator to a bicycle, Soichiro created his first ‘Honda’ vehicle. His next challenge was to meet the demand for them. From this, Honda was able to develop this vehicle even further and was eventually able to create his own motors on a production line. After building a team of 34 employees, Honda as a company designed and manufactured their very first motorcycle, called the ‘Dream’ D-type.

As of 1963, Honda started selling cars and commercial vehicles. The success of their motorcycles pushed Honda to develop from two wheels to four wheels. In the 1970s, the Honda Civic hit the market followed closely by the Accord 4 years later. Today, Honda is one of the world's leading automakers, producing a wide range of vehicles from cars to motorcycles.

From the introduction of the first hybrid car in 1999 to the development of the world's first hydrogen fuel cell vehicle in 2002, Honda has consistently pushed the boundaries of automotive technology.
