At Swansway Group, we want you to be happy with your vehicle choice. During your Motability car search, you’ve undoubtedly come across a broad range of vehicle body styles. Each has its advantages, so it makes sense to choose one that will make your life on the road easier.
Here is a brief run-through of the different body styles available through the Motability car scheme so that you can choose the right one for your needs.
One of the most popular body styles is the hatchback. They’re available in small sizes like the Volkswagen Up!, medium sizes such as the Peugeot 208, and larger sizes like the SEAT Leon.
The beauty of hatchback cars is the rear door swings upwards, making it easy to get any cargo in or out of the vehicle. Three-door hatchback cars have wide side doors, providing larger opening angles for drivers and passengers.
If you often transport passengers in your car, a saloon car might be a good choice. They have four fairly wide doors, making access easy for everyone. Instead of a tailgate to access the cargo area as you’d have in a hatchback, you’ve got a boot lid instead.
A coupe car like the Peugeot 108 Allure is ideal if you want a hatchback’s practicality, but you’d prefer a sportier vehicle. Some coupes feature fold-down roofs, but most are four or five-seater cars with hardtops.
If you’re someone that enjoys driving their car with the wind blowing through your hair and face, a convertible car could be the right choice for you. Some convertibles, like the Peugeot 108 TOP!, have fold-back roofs rather than ones that fold entirely down.
Do you require a hatchback-like car with plenty of space inside the cabin? And does it need a high roofline for ease of access? If the answer’s yes, a car that can seat up to seven people, such as the Peugeot 5008, could be the right vehicle for your needs.
An estate car combines the cabin space and ease of entry found in a saloon with the simple boot accessibility of a hatchback car. Estate cars like the Peugeot 308 SW typically provide more boot space than hatchbacks and saloons and are suitable for storing wheelchairs.
An MPV is the perfect choice for you if you’d like the space and flexibility that a seven-seater car offers, but you want further flexibility. Some MPVs, such as the Volkswagen Sharan, have rear electric sliding doors, and the back seats can fold down to create a large flat boot.
SUVs like the Audi Q2 are sportier versions of MPVs. They typically have larger, more powerful engines, a plethora of in-car entertainment technology and are ideal if you need to transport heavy wheelchairs or mobility aids.
Some people may find that large cars like MPVs or SUVs don’t offer them enough space for their needs. In those cases, a van such as the Volkswagen Transporter could be a better choice. Vans have plenty of room and height and are ideal for easy wheelchair access.
