How to Search for Motability Cars

If you are eligible for a Motability car, or you have a family member who can access the scheme, the best ways to search for Motability vehicles include visiting approved Motability dealerships and using the Motability website.

Visit an approved Motability dealership

Motability dealerships specialise in providing customers with Motability Scheme vehicles. If you visit a dealer, you can benefit from expert advice and tailored recommendations from experienced Motability specialists. Check the Motability website

The Motability website has a convenient Find A Car tool, which you can use to see what Motability lease cars are available, compare makes and models, and filter options based on your requirements and personal preferences. You can research, get information about customisation options and features, and compare Motability cars with other Motability vehicles.

Understanding Motability Scheme Cars

The Motability Scheme is designed to help people get around and live more independently. It provides access to lease cars and other Motability vehicles for people who receive the following allowances:

  • Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance (HRMC DLA)
  • Enhanced Rate Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (ERMC PIP)
  • War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
  • Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)
  • Enhanced rate of the mobility component of Adult Disability Payment
  • Higher rate of the mobility component of the Child Disability Payment

To qualify, you must have at least 12 months remaining on your award when you apply for a Motability car.

If you don’t drive, but you do receive any of the allowances above, you can still apply for a Motability vehicle. You can select up to two other drivers on your behalf. Parents and carers can also apply on behalf of a child over the age of 3.

Exploring Motability Cars on PIP

PIP, the Personal Independence Payment, is designed to help with extra costs associated with disabilities and chronic health conditions.

If you receive the higher rate mobility component of PIP, you can apply for Motability cars on PIP. You’ll need to make sure that you have 12 months left and be aged between 16 and state pension age to qualify. The current rate for ERMC PIP is £77.05 per week.

If you are eligible for Motability PIP cars, you can search online for local dealers and use the Motability website to see what’s available through the car Motability Scheme.

Benefits of Motability Wheelchair Cars

There are many benefits of Motability vehicles, including Motability wheelchair cars. These include:

  • Access to brand-new vehicles every 3 years
  • Adaptations designed to enhance driver and passenger experience and cater to personal needs
  • Inclusive packages, which cover everything apart from fuel
  • Enjoy the space you need to travel comfortably and transport mobility aids and equipment
  • Add up to two named drivers
  • Access breakdown cover and assistance
  • Up to 60,000 mileage allowance over 3 years
