Volkswagen have been known for some of the most iconic vehicles over the years; the Golf, the Caddy, T-Roc, the California and let’s not forget the classic Beetle. As the new generation of electric cars and vans hits the scene, the all-new Volkswagen ID. Buzz is turning more than a few heads. Newly available to the UK market, this vehicle offers what you would expect and more, offering a stylish space to complete day-to-day work tasks, or offer a comfortable drive for long journeys. Take a look at the top 5 reasons to consider a Volkswagen ID. Buzz for your fleet.
What is the Volkswagen ID. Buzz?
Volkswagen’s answer to the commercial electric vehicle market, some readers may remember the 2004 Caravelle Van, which is still considered the original people carrier. Whilst its origins can be traced all the way back to the 1950 split-screen VW bus, the ID. Buzz provides us with a modern rendition of the vehicle that has been developed for modern times - an all-electric vehicle with Volkswagen’s superior engineering and quality. This makes it perfect for commercial use.
The Buzz offers a range of benefits that make it ideal for both personal and commercial use, offering versatility and space that provides innovative solutions for many different types of industry in an eco-conscious world. Intelligent, modern technology and a range of different battery options to suit different outputs and budgets.
Why you should choose the Volkswagen ID. Buzz for your commercial projects
Apart from looking great, the ID. Buzz has a range of fantastic features that make it ideal for your commercial projects across many industries:
Premium Battery
The ID. Buzz is equipped with a lithium-ion battery, offering a high voltage and allowing you to travel up to 276 miles without having to stop for a recharge. If you do need to stop for a recharge whilst you’re on route to your destination, the Buzz can be charged on ultra rapid charging ports in 4 minutes for a part charge (30 miles) and 30 minutes for an 80% charge (207 miles). In most commercial environments, time is of the essence and having the ability for a fast charge can be crucial in helping you get the job done in a timely manner.
Should you need to charge your Buzz back at headquarters, there are several types of charging you can do depending on wattage:
- 2.3kW - slow charging on a three-pin plug: this can charge for 4 hours and 4 minutes for 30 miles of range (part charge) and 35 hours for 258 miles of range (full charge).
- 7.4kW - fast charging at a charge point: this can charge for 1 hour and 19 minutes for 30 miles of range (part charge) and 11 hours and 25 minutes for 258 miles of range (full charge).
- 22kW - this can charge for 52 minutes for 30 miles of range (part charge) and 7 hours and 30 minutes for 258 miles of range (full charge).
Electric Engine
Offering a maximum output of 286 PS, you’ll have no problem in reaching 0 to 62mph in 7.9 seconds. If you opt for the trailer, which can be very useful in several industries, you will be able to load up to 1,200kg easily without affecting the performance of the vehicle. The agility of the ID. Buzz is thanks to both its maximum torque of 550Nm and the battery location allowing a low centre of gravity and a small turning circle means you can navigate easily through narrow city streets.
Sustainability
In a sustainability-conscious world, it’s important that manufacturers are strategic when sourcing the materials used to make their cars and vans - and Volkswagen have certainly exercised careful consideration with the ID. Buzz. Whilst we know that a fully electric vehicle reduces the driver’s carbon footprint and can assist in helping your company become more carbon-neutral, some of the processes used by Volkswagen ensures that the Buzz is one of the most sustainable electric vehicles in the world:
- All of the materials used for the floor coverings, seat covers and roof liner are created from recycled products, such as SEAQUAL® yarn, which is manufactured using 10% of ocean plastics that have been collected using the initiative.
- The steering wheel rim is manufactured with a synthetic material that not only mimics the high quality of natural leather, but feels like it too.
- The paint used to give the vehicles their unique colours are all organically based.
- Volkswagen will also reclaim vehicle batteries once they have reached the end of their life cycle and will be given a second life - potentially as energy storage for a building’s solar panel system, amongst other projects.
Technology
We’ve become accustomed to the advances in technology over the years and the automotive industry is one of the industries that has seen the most. Volkswagen began their research into self-driving vans by forming a partnership with Argo AI, an American technology giant and although they had shut down in 2022, Volkswagen has joint control over the business with Ford, after closing a $2.6 billion investment. Of course, as this research continues to develop, only certain cities will be able to reap the benefits of self-driving vans - but if it proves a success, say hello to autonomous driving.
Design
The design of the ID. Buzz allows for simple driving - very much like driving a car. The design of this van allows for high visibility and its built-in drive modes allow for regenerative braking - this means that when the brakes are applied, the vehicle will generate kinetic energy and turn it into electricity, which will be stored in the battery until it needs to be used.
Although many images you see of the ID. Buzz indicate a larger vehicle that may put you off driving one through the towns and cities, the pictures can be slightly deceptive. The size of the vehicle reaches 4.7m long, which is only slightly shorter than the Volkswagen Passat Estate. For those who need a larger, sustainable vehicle that can handle the hustle and bustle of city driving then the ID. Buzz is a good option to consider.
Model Variants
In the UK, the ID. Buzz was released mid-2024 so you may have seen a number of them already cruising the streets. Starting with the 5-seater ID. Buzz, Volkswagen then announced the production of the 7-seater, which would also come equipped with a bigger battery. There is also the ID.Buzz Cargo which is very similar to the Buzz, but the vehicle has larger dimensions and a flatter, van-sized layout. All of this depends on what industry you’re in and what you’ll likely need the van for.
In 2025, Volkswagen intends to release the ID. Buzz California. Campervan-style, this van would be ideal for those who travel far and wide for their work and want to save on accommodation. Whether you’re considering looking for a mobile office, a new food truck or other pop-up businesses. Buying a campervan for business use is an ideal investment for any company to add to your fleet.
