Introducing the all-new Volkswagen Tayron, Volkswagen’s second-biggest SUV in the European market. Offering even more space than the Tiguan, this SUV is perfect for those looking for a spacious ride that can accommodate family, luggage or cargo but still provides a high level of performance. Styling and design is not something that the Tayron has compromised on, offering a number of head-turning features that add something special. We’ve broken down the main elements of the new Tayron to give you an idea of what to expect with Volkswagen’s new SUV - and prove to you that this is the SUV of choice. The Tayron is due to go on sale at the beginning of 2025.
Design
Volkswagen has been giving us something to look forward to with each new design they bring to the market and the Tayron is no different. Although this vehicle and the Tiguan do look very similar in design, this five or seven seater offers some new design features that offer a new experience to Volkswagen fans.
On the lengthier side of the spectrum, it’s no surprise with two extra seats in the back - perfect for a larger family or for those who go on frequent road trips. Measuring 10mm wider and 230mm longer than the Tiguan, it’s slightly more imposing compared to its predecessors - but this means driver and passengers can experience comfort like no other. The sloping roofline offers a sportier look, aiding in a streamlined ride and decreased wind resistance. The exterior is also fitted with intelligent headlights - standard light strips adorn the front and rear, but the distinctive illuminated door handles and illuminated logos around the car help it to stand out from the crowd.
Interior
The interior of the car is exactly what you’d expect from a modern SUV - spacious, technologically advanced and a luxury feel. Ambient lighting greets you upon entry into the vehicle and the gloss finish across the dashboard exudes class and style. The Tayron comes with different interior options like a wood veneer effect, which enhance the luxurious styling of this car.
The 12.9-inch touchscreen display comes as standard across most models in the Volkswagen family, but the Tayron allows you to upgrade to a 15.0-inch system - this keeps you entertained, safely navigated and well informed throughout your journey. A multifunction knob in the centre console allows you to adjust driving modes, ambient lighting and volume.
Of course, an SUV isn’t an SUV without the spaciousness! The Tayron has taken the crown as Volkswagen’s second-largest SUV on the European market, offering a lot more space than the Tiguan. The vehicle comes with a five seater (885 litres of boot space) and seven seater (850 litres of boot space) option, so you can choose based on your lifestyle requirements. The chairs can be folded down to create even more room for luggage and cargo.
Engine
Similarly to the Tiguan, the Tayron is available with three different engines - petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid. It should be noted that if a seven seater vehicle is a non-negotiable to your lifestyle requirements, then it will only be available with a petrol or diesel engine:
Petrol and diesel
If a seven seater is exactly what you need, the petrol and diesel options are available. There is a choice of two petrol engines - the 1.5 litre turbo with 150hp or the 2.0 litre with either 204hp or 265hp. This offers a speedy performance and an all-wheel drive which has its own range of benefits:
- Stability - all-wheel drives offer added stability, which means that the risk of skidding or rolling over is significantly reduced.
- Off-roading - all-wheel drives have the capability to drive off-road or over difficult terrain, such as unpaved surfaces.
- Acceleration - these cars are able to accelerate a lot more smoothly and easily than your typical two-wheel drives.
- Handling - all-wheel drives are much better at handling on roads during adverse weather, such as torrential rain or snow.
- Traction - traction can be difficult for a lot of cars on snow, mud or gravel, but an all-wheel drive can prevent slipping and skidding.
Plug-in hybrid
The plug-in hybrid offers a 1.5 litre engine with an electric motor, which you can choose between 204ph or 272ph options. Both of these electric options are able to travel over 62 miles on electric power alone. The reason why the hybrids cannot have seven seats is due to the technologies that make up a PHEV are tucked away under the boot, so practicality dictates that it’s not possible to have seven seats. Cars like the PEUGEOT 5008 is a hybrid option with seven seats.
