Considered a great automotive brand for several key reasons, Volkswagen has been an ever-present for many years now, producing various cars that have become extremely popular. Rooted in its heritage, engineering quality, versatility and global reputation - the Wolfsburg-based manufacturer is always in the conversation for being a top brand and below is why Volkswagen is a great choice.
Meaning people’s car, Volkswagen was formed in 1937 and has nearly 90 years of history. Forged in tradition, VW has been a part of many people’s lives going back to iconic models such as the Beetle, Polo, Transporter and Golf have been cultural bestsellers worldwide. Also, VW owns premium marquees like Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini, Bentley and Bugatti, showcasing their reach and influence. With their wide product range, small cars in the Polo and Golf, SUVs like the T-Roc and the Passat, their family car offering, have all proved popular choices.

A high-performance, compact hatchback that blends raw speed, with advanced tech and everyday practicality. Focusing on its ability to go from 0-62mph in 4.4 seconds, this variant of the VW Golf is more premium than others and possesses various enhanced functions not included with the trims below the R. With its excellent handling and classy technology, the new Golf R is the fastest version of this model to date. Volkswagen have made a machine in this Golf R, with its engine giving anybody driving this car a thrill, and a motorsport feel when on the road. All features within the trims below this variant come as standard, with others being additional to give the user the benefits of paying a more luxurious price tag (£42,320 manufacturer direct price).
Interior - A Volkswagen Golf R interior is a purposeful blend of sportiness and refinement. The cabin typically features premium sport seats, often upholstered in a mix of ArtVelours or optional Nappa leather, with pronounced bolstering, a distinctive “R” logo on the backrests, and contrasting blue stitching for a motorsport feel.
The multi-function steering wheel is flat-bottomed, wrapped in perforated leather with a blue centre-mark and a prominent R button that allows you to switch between driving modes. Add in stainless-steel pedals, illuminated “R” door sills, and a high-definition touchscreen infotainment system, and you’ve got an interior that’s equally at home on a race track or a weekend drive.
Exterior - A Volkswagen Golf R sports an exterior that’s both aggressive and refined, clearly distinguishing it from standard Golfs. Up front, it features a redesigned bumper with large high-gloss black air intakes, a splitter, and a modified grille proudly bearing the “R” badge, giving it a strong motorsport presence. Along the sides, you’ll spot bold side sills, “R” logos, and matte chrome mirror caps (on some models, they even project the “R” logo onto the ground).

A Volkswagen Golf R delivers seriously potent performance that blends high power with real-world drivability. Its 2.0-litre turbocharged TSI engine churns out up to 320 PS (235 kW) and 420 Nm of torque, depending on the model, which gives very strong acceleration across the rev range. Thanks to its 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system and a 7-speed DSG transmission, the R launches cleanly and grips hard, helping it hit 0-62 mph in around 4.6 seconds for recent versions. Top speed is electronically limited: standard models peak at 250 km/h, though with the optional R Performance package, it can rise to 270 km/h.
