Engineered to be agile and fun to drive, the first Volkswagen e-Golf was launched in 2014 as the Volkswagen brand's second battery electric vehicle (BEV) after the e-up! 03 in 2013. Production of the e-Golf began in Wolfsburg in 2014, and then due to its popularity and high demand, the model was additionally built-in the Gläserne Manufaktur Dresden, Germany, for more than two and a half years.
The Volkswagen e-Golf is now one of the most successful battery electric vehicles in Europe and is also popular with customers in other countries, too, such as the USA. The car had gained incredible popularity and for a good reason.
The 2015 e-Golf, is very similar to Volkswagen's other Golf models powered by diesel and petrol. However, it does have an output of 100 kW (136 PS), and a WLTP range of up to 230 kilometers and the most significant distinction of the Volkswagen e-Golf is that it has a synchronous permanent-magnet AC motor which generates 115 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque used to propel the compact car.
The VW e-Golf has fast charging capabilities as it features a 24.2-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack, which stores enough energy for an 83-mile driving range. It also boasts a standard fast-charging system that allows you to replenish the e-Golf's battery to 80 percent charge in just thirty minutes. As well as the fast charging, when you brake or lift your foot off the pedal, the e-Golf converts the energy to electricity to help recharge its batteries. The higher the regenerative level you select, the more the car slows down when you lift your foot.
The e-golf also features different modes, for example, there's the Normal mode, but then you can switch to Eco mode for a happy medium of performance and efficiency. Or to help maximize your range, you can put the car into Eco+ mode for more conservative battery usage.
As the awareness of climate change and demand to look after the environment increases, electric cars are becoming increasingly popular which means there are more used electric cars entering the secondhand market too, including the Volkswagen e-Golf.
This will probably come as no surprise as there are many advantages to buying an electric vehicle as well as the promise of zero-emissions driving, the introduction of 'clean air zones' and the fact that the UK government has said that all non-electric cars will be banned from sale in Britain in 15 years as part of its climate action summit.
When looking for any used car and specifically a used electric car, there’s a lot to think about, but trust us when we say that a used VW e-Golf can be a really good choice. It is not only a great family hatch and a car that retains its original's practicality, the e-golf is built superbly. It's important to carefully check the trims of the car you're interested in to make sure that you're getting the features you want, or that you're not overpaying for features you don't want.
The Volkswagen e-golf has just two trim levels, the SE and the SEL premium, and there's not much difference in the interior materials between them. With the SEL premium, you will find faux-leather seats, a self-dimming rearview mirror, and ambient lighting. Other than that, the e-Golf features partial-power seat adjustments in both trim levels, so the driver and front passenger can use a switch to adjust their angle of the seat, but they have to use manual controls to modify the height or fore-aft positioning of the seats. The e-Golf has the same amount of cargo space as the original non-electric version, and also, the SE also comes with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display; SEL Premium models come with a larger, 9.3-inch unit. This is an easy-to-use system; it looks sleek and features navigation in the SEL Premium. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and MirrorLink are all standard, as is an eight-speaker sound system.
