The Audi S1 is relatively economical with an official figure of 40.3mpg, and then there's the addition of quattro four-wheel drive too. With a boot space of 860–210 liters, the S1 has one of the best small car interiors around, both in terms of quality and design. It includes a flat-bottomed steering wheel and half leather upholstery as standard, both with red stitching.
Back in the 1980s, an Audi S1 was the car that saw the brand dominate the World Rally Championship in its day. Now, the Audi S1 and the S1 Sportback are the names given to the brand’s flagship models in the compact A1 model line.
A high-performance four-cylinder unit provides the drive. The 2.0 TFSI fitted with a turbocharger develops 170 kW (231 hp) and produces up to 370 Nm (272.90 lb-ft) of torque. The two-litre engine accelerates the Audi S1 and the S1 Sportback from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 5.8 and 5.9 seconds respectively. The top speed is 250 km/h (155.34 mph). On average the sporty, sonorous TFSI consumes just 7.0 (33.60 US mpg) or 7.1 (33.13 US mpg) litres of fuel per 100 kilometers (162 and 166 grams CO2 per kilometer [260.71 g/mile / 267.15 g/mile]) respectively.
When driving the S1, your all-round visibility is really good, which makes the S1 easy to park in tight spots, good for driving on the motorway, and also you'll find little wind or road noise, making it relatively relaxing on long journeys.
Including a larger brake master cylinder as well as large brake discs - front 310 millimeters (12.20 inches) in diameter - you can enjoy excellent deceleration in the Audi S1 and red brake calipers with S1 logo can be ordered as an option. The two sporty compact models are supplied ex-factory with 17-inch wheels with 215/40 R17 tyres; Audi offers 18-inch wheels with 225/35 R18 tyres as an option.
With the S1, you also get a high level of standard equipment, including climate control, Bluetooth, and an iPod connection. The main functions of the car are controlled through a 6.5-inch color screen that sits on top of the dash, which is very easy to use, and the screen neatly folds down when not in use.
With the S1, two trim levels are offered, the Nav and Competition Nav, the latter has bigger wheels, privacy glass, and carbon door mirrors. In the standard trim, you'll get automatic xenon headlights, sat-nav, and cruise control included, and black is the only cost-free paint option when buying new, but there are options to have metallic, and pearl effect finishes for an extra cost. The standard seats are upholstered in a combination of cloth and leather, and crucially are well-bolstered. You can pay extra for leather-trimmed super sport seats, and there are heated options too, plus Audi Drive Select is standard.
The used Audi S1 and the used S1 Sportback are instantly recognisable as the flagship models in the used A1 model line. Their xenon plus headlights are all-new while the LED rear lights come with new, horizontally structured graphics. A host of details - particularly on the front and rear bumper, the side sills, and the exhaust system - boast more striking styling. Four new exterior colors supplement the available paint finishes. The optional Quattro exterior styling package hones the look further, courtesy of features such as a large roof spoiler.
