Whether you’re out and about during the day or night or get caught in bad weather, the IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights, ensure better visibility for both you and other drivers. The Dynamic Light Assist helps to predictively illuminate winding roads and ensures that oncoming traffic is not dazzled, even when the main beam headlights are active. This automatic high beam feature allows you to fully concentrate on the road.

Don't have any hands free? The T-Roc is equipped with a handy feature that allows you to open and close the boot of the car with your foot. As part of the Easy Open & Close package, the Keyless Access system recognises the key in your pocket and with a swift movement under the rear end of the vehicle, the electric boot lid opens or closes automatically. Volkswagen T-Roc R-Line

What is the T-Roc?

The T-Roc has been a hugely popular model for Volkswagen, tapping into the huge demand for crossovers with badge appeal and build quality. It’s been on sale for four years now, so was definitely ready for a facelift. VW has refreshed the T-Roc for 2022, bringing new styling tweaks, upgrades to the interior and a revised engine range for those looking for more.

What’s new?

Generally speaking there’s not much in the way of differences between this variation and its predecessor. However, the keen-eyed will notice that the chunky-looking front end has been tweaked to have a softer, curvier appearance, but not so much so that you wouldn’t be able to recognise it. Bigger changes can be found inside, where the dashboard has been replaced with a more premium-feeling, soft-touch material. There’s also a new infotainment system and the multifunction steering wheel which has taken inspiration from the Volkswagen Golf, a icon all on its own.

What’s under the bonnet?

There are three petrol and two diesel engines available on the standard T-Roc. The petrol engines start with a 108bhp 1.0-litre, with a 148bhp 1.5-litre engine in the middle of the range and a 187bhp 2.0-litre unit at the top. As for diesels, there are two 2.0-litre options with 113bhp or 148bhp. There are also front and four-wheel-drive options depending on the engine you choose, as well as manual and automatic transmissions.

The performance-focused R has a 2.0-litre petrol engine, which achieves 296bhp and has an automatic transmission with four-wheel-drive as standard. It can reach speeds from 0-60mph in 4.9 seconds.

How does it look?

Mid-life refreshes often come with subtle styling changes and while the T-Roc hasn’t been overhauled, it’s noticeably different from before. That softer front end comes in the form of a reworked headlight cluster with a new LED running lights and a redesigned grille. At the rear, there’s a chunky lower bumper with new LED lights, whilst new 16 to 19-inch alloy wheel designs are available.

What’s it like inside?

The updates on the T-Roc are more noticeable on the interior of the vehicle, with more modern technology and premium quality materials. There’s a new digital instrument display ahead of the driver (head ups display), whilst the infotainment display now sits proud of the dashboard and is available as 6.5, 8.0 or 9.2 inches, depending on trim.

It also gets the new Volkswagen Golf’s multifunction steering wheel, revised switchgear and new fabric door trims. Opt for the R model and you get some unique parts, like a flat-bottomed steering wheel and R-specific instruments.

What’s the spec like?

There will be a variety of infotainment displays available to choose from, whilst the driver assistance systems will likely be more extensive on higher trims.

We also know that the R model will get a sporty body kit for the outside, and a range of technology and equipment upgrades over regular models to cement its place as the flagship of the range.

Verdict

The German firm has given the Volkswagen T-Roc a decent makeover that should make it worthy of your attention. The T-Roc has always been an excellent option in the crossover market with defined features and advanced technology, but with improved equipment and a stylish new look, it should push itself back into contention as one of the best in class.
