The Origin

Land Rover, pronounced as 'LAN-Droh-vuh', originated as a type of vehicle made by the Rover Company. It all started in 1948 with the creation of a practical SUV with four-wheel-drive capabilities, designed by Maurice Wilks. The brand received royal recognition in 1951 when King George VI granted Land Rover a Royal Warrant. Since then, Land Rover has become a well-established brand, introducing the iconic Range Rover to its range in 1970.

After being a part of British Leyland for almost two decades, Land Rover was acquired by BMW in 1994, although this ownership was short-lived. In 2000, the Rover Group was disbanded and the brand was sold to the Ford Motor Company.

In 2008, Tata Motors purchased both Land Rover and Jaguar Cars, leading to the establishment of Jaguar Land Rover Limited as a British-registered subsidiary. Today, Land Rover cars are primarily manufactured in the UK. They are known for their rugged yet stylish designs and outstanding off-road capabilities. The Range Rover models offer a more luxurious option for those who mainly drive on-road.
