To make use of the Motability Scheme, follow these simple steps:

1

Make an appointment with one of Swansway Group’s Motability Specialists by calling your chosen dealership.

2

Notify your Motability Specialist of any special requirements for your visit, e.g. disabled parking space, wheelchair access, etc. Whenever needed, the dealership may be able to send out a familiarisation video to you which will detail the parking, building layout and provide an image of who your appointment is with for ease of identification.

You should also let your specialist know if you have an idea of the type of vehicle you are interested in whether it be a hatchback, coupé, saloon, MPV, SUV, estate etc. Our specialists are a highly knowledgeable bunch and will be able to help you narrow down your search should you not have an exact vehicle in mind.

3

At your appointment, you must bring with you:

  • Your Award Notice or Letter of Entitlement which confirms your mobility allowance and the length of your award
  • Proof of your address, e.g. a utility bill
  • Your driver’s licence and/or your named drivers’ driving licences and consent
  • Details of any accidents or driving penalties that any of the nominated drivers have had

4

Discuss with the Motability Specialist your requirements from the vehicle, who will be using the vehicle and any adaptations that may be needed. The specialist will then show you a selection of suitable vehicles and allow you and/or your nominated driver to test drive your chosen car. If you are unable to visit the dealership, the car may be driven to your home address for you to view it.

5

When you are happy with your choice, the Motability Specialist will fill out all of the paperwork, input it into the computer and start the process of your application, and ordering your vehicle.

6

You will be kept up to date by your Motability Specialist regarding the progress of your application and, once accepted, you will receive a letter stating your Personal Identification Number (PIN). This takes roughly 2 weeks. Your Motability Specialist will then notify you of an expected delivery date and contact you to make a collection appointment.

7

During your collection appointment, which you should expect to last anywhere between 1 hour to 2 hours, the Motability Specialist will go through all of the car’s controls and ensure full familiarisation with the vehicle for you and all drivers. You must remember to bring your PIN with you to your appointment as you need to input this into the vehicle in order to be able to drive away.

8

Once your handover has taken place, you can take the keys and drive away for at least three years’ carefree motoring!
