CUPRA has added some new e-boost variants to its latest Born electric car, bringing more power to this striking-looking model. The addition means that there are now three combinations of battery capacity and power available to choose from, giving buyers even more choice than before.
But what are these options and what else do you need to know about these new Born variants? Let’s take a look.
How much power does the Born have to offer?
CUPRA is a brand with sporting intent running through its models and that’s certainly the case with the Born. Even entry-level models boast 201bhp from their electric motor, which equates to a 0-60mph time of 7.1 seconds.
However, it’s the 227bhp version that’ll be the choice for performance enthusiasts. The added power drops the car’s 0-60mph time to an impressive 6.4 seconds, which gives most petrol-powered hot hatches a real run for their money.
But what battery options are there?
There’s plenty of choice when it comes to batteries, too. Things kick off with a 58kWh unit, which is enough to deliver between 234 and 264 miles of range. When fitted to the more powerful motor, this brings a range of up to 261 miles, so you’re not penalised too much for going for that punchier setup.
However, for long-distance drivers, it's the 77kWh version that’ll stand out. It can return up to 341 miles between charges, so it’s definitely got the distance factor.
What about charging?
Of course, there’s no point in having a huge battery pack if you’re not able to charge it effectively. Fortunately, the Born has the ability to charge at rapid speeds, so you shouldn’t have to be waiting around too long in order to top up.
The smaller battery size can be charged via an 11kW home wallbox in just over six hours, though connecting it to a rapid 120kW charger will result in a 5-80 per cent charge taking just 35 minutes.
That top-spec battery is larger and, as a result, does take a little more time to charge up. However, it’s still more than respectable, with a full charge taking seven hours and 30 minutes when connected to an 11kW home charger. Opt for a 135kW rapid charger, and a five to 80 per cent charge will take 36 minutes.
Do these cars come with plenty of standard equipment?
Absolutely. All CUPRA Born models get a whole host of standard features, including full LED exterior lighting which definitely gives the car a futuristic edge. Inside, you’ll find a 12-inch infotainment display housing all the major media and navigation functions, while ahead of the steering wheel sits a 5.3-inch digital cockpit.
There are also features such as adaptive cruise control and even an augmented reality head-up display available on select models.
