New SEAT Leon Estate e-Hybrid

SEAT’s Leon Estate has often proved a popular choice for those after a more practical, family-friendly version of the firm’s hatch. With added boot space it’s a great choice for those who just need more luggage room, without losing out on any of the standard equipment found on the regular car.

It’s now been bolstered with a new hybrid powertrain, which should help to make the package even more appealing. Let’s take a look at what it’s got to offer.


Much like the regular Leon, the Estate features an interior which is practically bristling with cutting-edge tech. It’s a cabin which is dominated by screens, while plush materials ensure that the interior feels as luxurious as possible. Legroom in the rear of the car is also plentiful, while boot space is noticeably improved compared to the hatch.

Roof rails also mean that there’s the option of fitting roof boxes and other accessories, further broadening the Leon’s abilities.

As is often the case, the estate version of the Leon is - in our eyes - even more striking than the hatch. The regular car’s looks have been well translated onto a larger platform, ensuring that those who opt for the estate aren’t going to have to sacrifice appearance for practicality.

The front end of the car is particularly striking, while cuts and folds down the length of the vehicle help to disguise its larger size well.


​Given the regular Leon’s high levels of technology, it’ll come as no surprise that it’s a similar story in the estate too. There’s a large infotainment screen in the middle of the cabin which benefits from both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the digital dials ahead of the driver are a particular highlight.

It’s worth noting that the Leon is one of many cars hitting the market which uses USB-C charging ports. If you’re still using conventional USB cables, then you’ll need to get an adaptor to use these.


Thanks to a punchy 1.4-litre engine linked with an electric motor and batteries, the Leon e-Hybrid has more than enough performance for most occasions. It’ll deal out the 0-60mph sprint in just 7.5 seconds, yet return up to 235.4mpg. Also, it’s able to run for 38 miles on electricity, which gives a combined range of up to 497 miles to play with - so the Leon should be quite adept at longer journeys, too.

A zero to 100 per cent charge will take six hours with a three-pin plug, though this drops to just three hours if you’re using a home wallbox charger.

What trim levels are on the SEAT Leon e-Hybrid?


The entry point to the Leon Estate e-Hybrid range is the FR, which brings with it a wide-sweeping amount of standard equipment including 17-inch alloy wheels and sport suspension. 

The 10-inch infotainment system and virtual cockpit are both included as standard with this trim level, too. 

FR Sport

Make the jump to FR Sport and you’ll find larger 18-inch alloy wheels added into the mix, which help to further the car’s presence out on the road. 

Much like the hatchback, moving up to FR Sport doesn’t have a drastic effect on the car’s spec, save for those alloy wheels. 


Things take a more luxurious turn when opting for XCELLENCE specification as this adds a reversing camera as well as front and rear parking sensors. Both of these are functions well worth having in a car like the Leon Estate, as they’ll only help with parking the slightly larger model. 

This specification does get smaller alloys than the FR Sport, but this is likely to result in an even more comfortable ride. 


Finally, we’ve got XCELLENCE Lux. As well as 18-inch alloy wheels, this specification really does get all of the bells and whistles you could possibly want. It includes everything added to previous trim levels - save for the FR’s sports suspension - but brings added assistance systems such as lane keep assist and a driver alertness monitor, to name but two.​
