Registration plates in the UK change twice a year, so whether you’ve been patiently awaiting the upcoming New Reg series or don't have a clue what that means, we will get you up to speed in no time.
What is the New Reg and how is it calculated?
If the vehicle was made in March, it will be displayed by two digits which represent the last two digits of the year the car was made. For example, the plates that are produced in March 2024 feature two digits reading ‘24’, as in ‘2024’.
However if a vehicle is produced in September, it features two digits again but this time we use the digits from the year and add 50. For example, if the car is made in September 2024, it will feature a ‘74’, because 24+50 = 74.
When are new reg plates released?
In the UK, new number plates are launched each spring (1st March) and autumn (1st September).
