Whether they are rare or desirable, there are many current cars that will make great investment opportunities.
Ford Fiesta ST200 – Price when new: £22,935 used: £16,750
The limited edition Ford Fiesta ST200 was unveiled in 2016, with just 400 coming to the UK.
Powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine, it is a rare little hot hatch that is quickly becoming a collector’s item, not just because of its scarceness, but because of its 200bhp output making it the most powerful Fiesta to date.
It can go from standstill to 60mph in 6.9 seconds and on to an impressive top speed of 143mph.
Unique features include its special Storm Grey paintwork, chunky black alloy wheels with red brake callipers and half leather sport seats.
Honda NSX – Price when new: £143,020 used: £175,000
The NSX was very highly anticipated because of its rarity, and because of the first generation NSX being so popular, and is quickly becoming an investable classic in its own right.
This second-generation 600bhp supercar from the Japanese automaker doesn’t disappoint. On board is a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine, which is mid-mounted, helping to stabilise the car whilst offering superb performance. Able to propel itself from 0-60mph in a blistering 2.7 seconds the NSX has a top speed of 191mph.
Because of its desirability, used prices for the Honda NSX have skyrocketed, with some examples selling for more than £200,000 – around £57,000 more than its list price.
Although you can’t pick a new one up anymore, due to them being discontinued, it’s definitely worth seeing if you can grab a second hand bargain.
BMW M2 – Current price new: £45,750 used: £47,990
The BMW M2 is a totally new car from BMW’s ‘M’ division. It takes a 3.0-litre straight-six engine and adds a turbocharger to produce 370bhp, not bad for a car weighing 1,570kg.
The M2 has been dubbed a pure drivers car and is seen to be a proper M car – meaning it is collectable and its value is in fact increasing already with second hand models costing more than when it was new.
People aren’t willing to wait for a new one so prices are already increasing on the second hand market. Buy now before the premium increases as this gem of a coupe continues to be a fantastic car.
Alfa Romeo 4C Spider – Current price new: £58,424 used: £48,895
A very desirable car and a very rare sight on British roads – the Alfa Romeo 4C comes with a 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine generating 237bhp.
Thanks it’s lightweight body, at just 999kg, it is an agile sports car which has been highly praised by motoring writers throughout the UK.
Because of its very attractive styling, it is viewed as a future classic, which has the potential to make owners money, as production numbers are low.
Porsche 911 GT3 – Current price new: £111,802 used: £120,000
The Porsche 911 GT3 is one of the fastest 911 models ever made. As such it has quickly become popular and is now viewed among Porsche aficionados as a collector classic. Premiums have been extortionate with people willing to pay more than £50,000-£60,000 more than the asking price to get their hands on a new one.
The second-hand market for classic Porsche’s has gone through the roof in the last five years with premiums soaring for earlier examples to as much as £1 million.
As such the GT3 is very much heading in a similar direction, with nearly £10,000 above list price being paid for used examples.
