The JAECOO 5 SHS-H is Coming

Once again expanding their compact SUV line-up, JAECOO are set to release the JAECOO 5 SHS-H, bringing full-hybrid technology to the popular JAECOO 5 model. In full hybrid form, the JAECOO 5 SHS-H delivers over 650 miles of total range and 0-62 mph in 7.9 seconds, meaning the self-charging hybrid system is designed to support efficient, everyday driving without the need to plug in - underpinned by a 1.83 kWh battery. Also retaining the same recognisable exterior design, interior layout and specification structure as the existing JAECOO 5, and will be available in both Pure and Luxury trim levels.

What is the JAECOO 5 SHS-H?

The JAECOO 5 SHS-H is a modern compact SUV that uses a self-charging hybrid (full hybrid) system, meaning it combines a petrol engine with an electric motor but does not need to be plugged in. It’s part of the JAECOO 5 range and is designed to offer a balance of efficiency, practicality, and light off-road capability, with features like advanced driver assistance systems, a large panoramic roof, and a tech-focused interior. The “SHS-H” refers to the brand’s Super Hybrid System, which automatically switches between petrol and electric power to improve fuel economy and extend range - often up to around 650 miles, making it a convenient option for drivers who want hybrid efficiency without charging infrastructure.

Why The JAECOO 5 SHS-H Has Been Created

Following in the footsteps of sister brand OMODA, which introduced its first full-hybrid variant of the OMODA 5 SHS-H in January 2026, the JAECOO 5 SHS-H enters the growing compact SUV segment. The all-new JAECOO 5 SHS-H combines the model’s established strengths of practicality, space and focus on adventure, with a full-hybrid system engineered for consistent performance across everyday driving conditions.

The JAECOO 5 SHS-H was created mainly to meet a big shift in what drivers and governments now want better fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and more practical alternatives to fully electric cars. As the car market moves toward electrification, manufacturers like JAECOO (part of Chery) are developing hybrid systems to bridge the gap between traditional petrol cars and full EVs.

More specifically, the model exists for three key reasons:

  • To improve efficiency without needing charging – The SHS-H uses a self-charging hybrid system, so drivers get better fuel economy and lower running costs without relying on charging infrastructure.
  • To compete in a fast-growing SUV market – Compact SUVs with hybrid tech are one of the most in-demand segments, so this version helps JAECOO stay competitive and expand in markets like the UK.
  • To offer a “middle ground” between petrol and electric – It combines the long range and convenience of petrol with the smoothness and efficiency of electric driving, making it appealing to people not ready to go fully electric.

Chery International brings its proven full-hybrid powertrain, which compromises a 1.5-litre turbo petrol full-hybrid system paired with a dedicated DHT automatic transmission, delivering a combined output of up to 165 kW. The original Super Hybrid System in full-hybrid form has been calibrated to provide a smooth and predictable driving experience for the JAECOO 5 SHS-H and, combined with front-wheel-drive performance, remains optimised for efficiency across a wide range of driving conditions.

Coming packed with a mix of technology, comfort, safety and lifestyle-focused features, designed to make it practical for everyday driving while still feeling modern and a bit premium.

Design and Styling in the JAECOO 5 SHS-H

In keeping with the wider JAECOO 5 line-up, the SHS-H variant retains the same exterior design as its petrol-powered stablemate. Its upright stance, wide shoulders and signature waterfall grille continue to define its visual identity, with design cues drawn from natural forms and terrain. The result is a compact SUV that maintains a sense of presence while remaining practical for everyday use. Available in five exterior colours including, Granite White, Graphite Grey, Basalt Black, Copper Green and Lazuli Blue, with two-tone options available on the Granite White and Copper Green - the JAECOO 5 SHS-H continues to reflect the model’s balance of versatility, capability and everyday comfort.

JAECOO 5 SHS-H Trim and Model Specification

The model will be offered in both the Pure and Luxury trims, mirroring the existing JAECOO 5 line-up. Pure provides a well-equipped foundation, including a 13.2-inch portrait-format touchscreen, a six-speaker SONY audio system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, alongside a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems. Luxury builds on this with additional comfort and convenience features, including an eight-speaker SONY audio system, a tilt and slide sunroof, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, and heated & ventilated front seats.
