Interior

The interior of the CUPRA Leon follows the technology-focused approach you’ll find on many Volkswagen Group cars at the moment, with a cabin practically bristling with screens. However, the basics have been covered well, with comfortable seats and a prominent multifunction steering wheel.

There are two variations of the sporty bucket seats available, "Sharp Code CUPRA Tech" that offers a textile finish with PVC lateral coverings, or "Genuine CUPRA Timeless" that adds a black leather or Petrol Blue textile. The centre console plays host to a 10 inch infotainment touchscreen that reduces button count and opens up a world of CUPRA advanced technology.

Exterior

The outside of the Leon features many of the styling touches we’ve come to expect from CUPRA models. There’s the prominent badge in the honeycomb front grille alongside large turbine-style alloy wheels and all manner of copper colour accents. It certainly builds on the appearance of the regular SEAT Leon and helps to give the car a good degree more presence than the ‘standard’ car.

Designed and developed in Barcelona, the CUPRA Leon envelops the brand's spirit. With striking design cues identifying the CUPRA Leon as a performance car, it is undoubtedly unmistakeable on the roads. The stand out looks are further enhanced by 19 inch alloy wheels that are available in 3 different finishes, and house the copper-coloured Brembo brakes. As standard, the CUPRA Leon features 18 inch alloy wheels.

At the rear, you will find a diffuser, spoiler and four exhausts that further define the CUPRA Leon as a performance car, not to be underestimated. Drama is also added with the rear coast-to-coast lighting and full LED front and rear lamps.

Technology

Technology is something the CUPRA Leon definitely majors on. In the cabin you’ll find a 10-inch infotainment system that is fitted as standard to all models. It’s here where you’ll access media and navigation functions, while the fitment of both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto means that integrating your smartphone into the car’s system is quick and easy.

In addition, you also get four USB-C charging points dotted throughout the car, while higher-spec cars boast wireless phone charging and heated front seats. Safety features include Predictive Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Traffic Sign Recognition, Traffic Jam Assist, Lane Assist Plus and Blind Spot Detection.

Performance

As you’d expect from a CUPRA , the Leon packs a real punch. The most powerful engine option is a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol unit, delivering 296bhp and 400Nm of torque through an automatic transmission - there’s no automatic option here. It allows for a 0-60mph time of 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 155mph. Despite this, it should return 37.2mpg while emitting 171g/km.

CUPRA has recently introduced a new lower-powered option, which also uses a 2.0-litre engine but pushes out 242bhp and 370Nm. Despite this, it’ll still crack 0-60mph in 6.4 seconds.

4Drive technology constantly monitors the car and driver inputs to deliver power to the wheel with the most grip, at the precise time it needs it.
