Volkswagen reveals pricing for new Multivan

Volkswagen has revealed that its new Multivan will cost from £43,160 when it goes on sale in January 2022.

The Caravelle replacement

The Caravelle replacement is no longer based upon the Transporter platform, instead utilising the MQB setup that underpins many of Volkswagen’s passenger vehicles. This allows it to offer a more car-like driving experience than before as well as more interior flexibility.

As well as the option for up to seven seats, the Multivan is available in two lengths and can be fitted with a new plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Modular seating allows owners to tailor the way the cabin is orientated depending on their likings, too. For instance, the rear five seats can be moved and removed when needed, while the second row of chairs can be rotated 180 degrees to provide conference-style seating. The bench seat at the rear of the old Caravelle has been removed in favour of individual chairs that are easier to remove and carry away from the car, too. The middle table sits on a central track and can be moved between any of the seating rows, providing extra space as well as three cup holders.

With all seats in place, the Multivan brings a load area of up to 469 litres while this can be increased up to 1,844 litres with the rearmost row removed. Take out all of the rearward seats and there’s a huge 3,672 litres to take advantage of - or 4,053 litres in long-wheelbase versions.

From launch, there are two four-cylinder engines to pick from, with both linked to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Then there’s the plug-in hybrid option, which combines a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 13kW battery and compact electric motor.

Entry-level Life cars bring 16-inch alloy wheels as standard as well as sliding doors with a power latch function, while Style cars - priced from £58,130 - gain IQ.Light LED Matrix headlights and Volkswagen’s full Discover Media system.

At the top of the range sits a special launch edition called Energetic. Priced from £59,515, this can only be equipped with the plug-in hybrid powertrain but brings features such as a premium Harmon Kardon sound system and 18-inch alloy wheels.
