Volkswagen releases new teaser sketches of upcoming Amarok

A series of new teaser sketches have given us the best look yet at the new Volkswagen Amarok.

Scheduled to go on sale next year, the third-generation pickup truck is shown off tackling tough terrain with the promise of ‘innovations that have not been seen before in this segment’.

Following a partnership with Ford, the new Amarok will share its underpinnings with the new Ranger, with both models expected to use a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 diesel engine. The V6 unit in the old model won many fans, so it’s likely this will continue.

Another image shows the truck’s interior, which looks heavily inspired by Volkswagen’s passenger car range. It gets a multifunction steering wheel and digital dials, similar to the latest Golf hatchback.

Albert-Johann Kirzinger, head of design at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles said: “The striking front, and above all the defining X design clearly distinguish the new Amarok and emphasise its claim to be leading the way.“We’ve given the strength and power of the new Amarok an unambiguous expression – with clear Volkswagen DNA, inside and out.”

More than 800,000 examples of the previous Amarok have been sold across the world since the Amarok went on sale in 2010. It was originally built in Hannover but the new model is being produced in Silvertone, South Africa and Pacheco, Argentina.

The new Volkswagen Amarok is scheduled to be open to orders in Europe ‘from late 2022’.
