“What car can I drive if I am under 25?”.
Whilst under 25s are welcome to join the scheme, it does restrict your options when picking the right vehicle to suit your needs.
There are currently over 1,600 vehicles available on the Motability Scheme and over 500 of them get the go-ahead for under 25 year olds to drive.
If you are under the age of 25 and are eligible to join the Motability Scheme, there are three rules when picking your vehicle:
- The vehicle must be a car, crossover or SUV
- The vehicles insurance group must be 16 or lower
- The engine of the vehicle must not exceed 120 brakehorse power (BHP), in power speed (PS) this is 121. Although this rule does exclude Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs)

Audi A1 Sportback
Available for under 25s in the Sport and S line trim levels as either manual or automatic models.

Audi A3 Sportback
The five-door A3 Sportback is a popular mid-sized hatchback and is available for under 25s in three levels; Technik, Sport and S Line, and all are available as either manual or automatic models.

The A3 Sportback comes equipped as standard with MMI Navigation Plus, Audi Smartphone Interface, 10.25-inch Audi Virtual Cockpit and 10.1-inch touch colour display. Building on this, the Sports trim adds 17” alloy wheels, interior and exterior styling upgrades, dual-zone electronic climate control and twin leather upholstery, while the S Line benefit from 18” alloy wheels, sports suspension and LED headlights.
SEAT Arona
The SEAT Arona is a crossover model and there are currently 8 models available on the Motability Scheme for drivers under 25. The Arona is undoubtedly a class-leading contender. Whereas some crossovers make compromises over their hatchback counterparts, the Arona is a different story. It drives well, is practical, attractive and gets some good kit. All models available feature the 1.0 litre TSI petrol engine which produces 110PS or 108BHP.

A small city car, the VW Up! is a great choice for young drivers. Its small size makes it easy to park and its overall appearance has been known to be described as fun. There are 4 Volkswagen Up! models available for Motability drivers under 25 and they all have an Advance Payment of £0. Trim levels include the Beats, Black Edition and Up.

Volkswagen Polo
The VW Polo is a hatchback model with plenty of charisma. Volkswagen T-Roc

Volkswagen Golf
The unmistakable VW Golf is available for drivers under 25 in the 1.0 litre Life trim level which comes with some great features including 16 inch alloy wheels, adaptive cruise control and a rain sensor allowing your wipers to switch on automatically when rainfall is detected to keep your vision on the roads clear.

Volkswagen Golf Estate
The VW Golf Estate is a practical car suitable for all of life’s journey’s. With it being an estate car, you can enjoy a very generous boot space of up to 1,642 litres and a height-adjustable, flexible luggage compartment floor.
