Strong and sporty
Audi’s S3 has been a core part of the firm’s range of performance cars for some time now, offering practical yet punchy driving wrapped up in a package which can be used day in, day out. The latest S3 brings more punch than ever, as well as a range of technical innovations which have helped to make it feel particularly high-end.
Audi has continued to offer a saloon version of the S3 too, offering up a slightly sleeker option over the standard Sportback variant. It’s got lots to offer, too, so let’s take a look and find out what it has in store.
Exterior design
The exterior design of the S3 represented more of an evolution of the older car’s look rather than a revolution, but that’s no bad thing as it’s still a classy and well-proportioned car in the metal. Certainly in saloon layout, the S3 looks sleek and smartly finished, with LED headlights giving it a real amount of presence on the road.
At the rear of the car are the standard-fit quad exhaust pipes which we’ve come to expect from nearly all S- and RS-model Audis. Other than these, it’s a largely understated look which many will no doubt find appealing.
Interior design
The cabin of the new S3 is a far more de-cluttered affair than the car it replaces thanks to a wider implementation of screens. That said, Audi has done well to ensure that key aspects of the controls are still accessed via physical buttons, making them easier to use than integrating them into the touchscreen. The heating and ventilation controls, for instance, are proper buttons and this makes them a lot more intuitive to use when on the move.
Build-quality-wise, the S3 is top-notch. The materials used are excellent, while the general fit-and-finish of the various cabin elements ensures that the S3 delivers a premium experience to anyone sitting inside.

Technology and safety
As with the vast majority of Audi models, the latest S3 saloon is absolutely jam-packed with technology. It’s headed up by a central infotainment screen - which is 10.1 inches - and this is where you’ll be able to access all of the key media and entertainment functions. Apple CarPlay is integrated into the system, too.
This is then backed up by Audi’s excellent Virtual Cockpit display. Measuring 10.25 inches in the S3, it replaces the conventional dials in favour of a screen which can be configured to showcase readouts such as the satellite navigation and media selection, as well as conventional data like speed and fuel levels.
