Used Volkswagen Scirocco

Beautifully sleek and wonderfully sporty, there's much to love about the Volkswagen Scirocco.

Buying A Used Volkswagen Scirocco

Since the first model roared onto the market in the mid 1970s, the Volkswagen Scirocco has been iconic. Sleek, stylish, and sporty, this multifaceted coupe has evolved through the generations to become a VW all-star.

If you’re looking to buy a used Volkswagen Scirocco, Swansway Group can provide you with the help and support you need to find the perfect fit. And this is a model that provides a number of great options, depending on your needs.

Running Costs

If low running costs are your priority, you might want to go for a diesel VW Scirocco. Fuel economy for these models ranges from 53 to 55mpg, while CO2 emissions of either 134 or 139g/km mean road-tax bills of £130 a year. That being said, the petrols aren’t too bad when it comes to economy and road tax either! Both the 120 and 158bhp engines manage more than 40mpg, while the 197bhp 2.0-litre still manages 38mpg.

The ‘R’ model will cost a little more to keep fuelled and on the road. Officially it’ll average around 34mpg (dependant on your driving style) and CO2 emissions of 189g/km mean an annual road-tax bill of £265.

Performance and Equipment

Whether you prefer a manual or automatic, you’re well catered for with an Approved Used Volkswagen Scirocco from Swansway Group.

The six-speed manual is lovely to use, and its shifts are both smooth and fast, whether you change gear yourself or keep it in automatic mode. You won’t find any version of the Scirocco wanting in terms of equipment. Even entry-level models get 17-inch alloys, climate control, electric windows, MP3 connectivity and a touchscreen infotainment system as standard. Meanwhile, high-spec GT models add a multifunction steering wheel, privacy glass and 18-inch alloys, while in late 2012, sat nav and a multifunction steering wheel became standard across the range.

Although we won’t be seeing any new versions of this awesome VW coupe rolling off the VW production lines anytime soon, the Scirocco has garnered its own cult following over the years. And there are a number of very good reasons for this.

The Scirocco is a hugely reliable car with comfortable suspension (making for a smooth ride, even in the sportier R model). It boats typical Volkswagen solidity; there’s well-built, quality materials across the board, lots of stylish details and high quality switches, that make the car feel more special than its Golf sibling.

These coupes are also surprisingly spacious for sports vehicles, with comfortable interior design that allows plenty of room for four people. The VW Scirocco has low running-costs, with strong resale values, frugal petrol and diesel engines and low company car tax rates, so makes for a great investment.

Above everything else, VW fans love the Scirocco for its outstanding performance. All engines across the Scirocco range provide abundant bang for your buck; even the lower-powered petrol and diesels. And unlike a few other sports cars on the market, the Scirocco really lives up to its muscular appearance.

The Volkswagen Scirocco’s Evolution

Volkswagen first released the Volkswagen Scirocco during the 1970s as a replacement for the Karmann Ghia coupe. Though designed to be sleeker and sportier than its close cousin, the Scirocco was fundamentally based on a VW Golf, offering a similar ethos and package but with added performance. Volkswagen then jumped straight into the MK II in 1981. This generation saw the addition of a 1.8L engine and the 16 valve engines putting out around 140 bhp - so quite a lot of power!

The famous Scirocco name returned to Volkswagen’s line-up again in 2008. As with its predecessors from the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s, the third-generation Scirocco took its platform from the VW Golf, dressed it up in a slinkier suit and gave it a sharper driving experience.

It was an instant hit, offering a fantastic compromise between sensible and sporty, with stylish design, a great range of engines, reasonable practicality and all the solidity you’d expect from a VW. The MK III Scirocco came with either a 1.4L or 2.0L petrol engine as well as a 2.0L diesel, and offered everything you ever wanted from a Scirocco.

And in 2014, the Scirocco was facelifted with stylish changes made to the exterior and an improved fit and quality of materials on the inside, while the biggest news was the introduction of the GT and a faster R. The new Scirocco range features a broad choice of four-cylinder engines, ranging from one turbocharged versions of the VW group 1.4, three 2.0-litre petrols and a 2.0-litre TDI offered with 148 or 178bhp.
