If you are looking for a new MPV with style, flexibility and excellent cargo capacity, you’re in the right place with the VW Caddy Life. The reliable and well-constructed sliding doors are a good fit for easy access for passengers, which is why it’s an excellent option for families. It’s the smallest of the commercial vehicle line-up, but still an excellent size that offers a huge range of options for those who want space and great handling!
The VW Caddy Life comes in five variants, looking fantastic and fitting in well for both business and home life. It may look small on the outside, but don’t be fooled: the proportions are there with enough space for the whole family.
The front-end features of the Caddy Life has a radiator grille styled and embellished with chrome louvers. There are colour-keyed elements including the door handles and heated door mirrors, but the appeal comes from the black roof rails, which allow for an elegant look and design. The front and back lights are range-adjustable, with daytime running lights and front fog lamps. You can get the Caddy Life in Cherry Red and Candy White as standard, but you can also find the Deep Black, Acapulco Blue and Viper Green. The colours are stunning and are offered in a wide range for better choice.
There are three trim levels for the Caddy Life:
You can also get the short and longer body lengths, with the Maxi being the longer of the two. There is a 7-seat Caddy Life MPV as well as a 5-seat Caddy Kombi van.
The performance of the new Volkswagen Caddy Life shows it to be the most fuel-efficient choice on the market. There is a 2.0-litre, 101bhp diesel unit that can return as much as 61.4mpg and CO2 emissions as low as 122g/km. This is where it comes in as the most fuel-efficient option out there
The VW Caddy Life is one of the newest passenger cars to have a Start/Stop system that ensures that the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are further reduced. This is done by automatic switch-off to the engine when the car stops. Many of the buyers who go for the Caddy Life do so because of the 101bhp engine option, and that’s because it offers a balanced drive. It’s fun, engaging and exciting as a new passenger car, and the 101bhp unit is the sensible option. The gearbox is great, with smooth shift action, and the gear shifts are quick, smooth and light, which adds another layer of peace and tranquility to what is a comfortable and quiet van to drive. If you’re looking for excellent performance and savings on fuel, while being kinder to the environment, you’re going to be in the right place with the new Volkswagen Caddy Life.
Every new Caddy Life has a six-speaker sound system with a CD player, DAB radio, AUX and SD connectivity and Bluetooth. Some of the excellent features on offer to the driver include:
Some of the best safety features of the new Caddy Life include ISOFIX mountings for car seats, child-proof rear doors and seat belt reminders. There are also multiple airbags and the standard safety equipment has excellent drivers aids as listed.
Along with the previously mentioned drivers aids, buyers will love the side and curtain airbags along with the extra-safe front-assist technology which serves to monitor the distance to things just in front of the vehicle. It’s an excellent safety feature for those who need the guidance when driving. There is an alarm that will sound before the car hits anything or gets too close, and it also ensures the brakes are ready for an emergency stop. Safety features like this are what sells the new Caddy Life, and emergency city braking - yet another feature - will apply the brakes at the lowest speeds to prevent and lessen the impact that a collision gives. As a Caddy Life customer, you can specify Adaptive Cruise Control, maintaining a set speed with a set distance to the car in front. You will also find Light Assist, which will dip the beam to avoid the dazzling lights of oncoming traffic.
Most people go straight to the interior of a new car, looking for comfort and space to fulfil their needs. The Startline trim is the first in the Caddy Life lineup, and you get a classy and sophisticated look with this interior. The console is focused in the centre and the infotainment system is the main attraction in the interior of the new Caddy Life. You’ll find a composite colour screen featuring an upgraded DAB radio with Bluetooth connectivity, too. With an SD card slot and AUX/USB inputs, the Caddy Life has a smart set-up that is particularly good for a van of this calibre. With a leather, multi-function steering wheel and heated mirrors that are electric, you get an excellent interior range for your car.
There is a five-seat cabin, upholstered in Kutamo cloth. You’ll find plenty of headroom and plenty of storage holes for passengers to keep their things. There is 8-way adjustable driver seating, too, which is brilliant for lumbar support! The features in the interior of the car are leather-clad, which makes for a classy look. Some of the features include:
For something a little more, Highline models get the following additions:
The Caddy Maxi Life’s smart front-end features a chrome-finished radiator grille. Colour-keyed bumpers, door handles and (electrically heated and adjustable) door mirrors stylishly co-ordinate with the body. Black roof rails look smart and provide additional load-bearing options, while extra lustre is afforded by 16-inch alloy wheels. Sliding near and off-side rear doors provide simple access to the vehicle’s second and third rows. Lighting includes range-controllable headlights, daytime running lights and front fog lamps.
Eight-way adjustable front seats offer lumbar support, and the driver can get to grips with a leather steering wheel, gear knob and gaiter, the former offering reach-and-rake adjustability. Other features include power-assisted steering, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, power-operated front windows and heated front and rear windscreens, the latter with wash-and-wipe functionality. An illuminated and lockable glovebox, under-floor compartments and drink holders are included too. Removable second and third rows help to provide the vehicle with as much as 3,800 litres of storage space.
A range of petrol and diesel engines are available for the Caddy Maxi Life. A 2.0-litre diesel unit is the highest-performing, producing 148bhp, 340Nm of torque, 0-60mph in approximately 10.5 seconds and a top speed of 136mph. Another 2.0-litre diesel engine is the most fuel-efficient, returning 60.1mpg and CO2 emissions as low as 124g/km. The Start/Stop system cuts the engine when it isn’t needed, helping to reduce fuel consumption further.
A six-speaker sound system includes an AM/FM and DAB digital radio. Bluetooth ®, AUX and SD connectivity is also featured. Standard driver aids include an Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Electronic Stability Programme, Traction Control, Hill Hold Assist and automatic hazard warning lights. Passive safety features comprise ISOFIX mountings, child-proof locks, electric seatbelt tensioners, seatbelt reminders and multiple airbags. Remote central locking, deadlocks, an alarm and an immobiliser help to keep the vehicle secure.
A brand new platform underneath has allowed Volkswagen’s engineers to maximise the amount of space that the Caddy can offer, which will help with the van’s various different layouts, ensuring that there’s a Caddy 5 to meet as many different uses as possible. The new Caddy Life has been redesigned to offer more comfort and connectivity than ever before.
It is difficult to dislike the new Caddy 5 interior in the Caddy Life. Plenty of room, a new larger touchscreen with optional Digital Cockpit, and supremely comfortable ergoComfort seats.
The new Caddy Life also features upgraded seating with a 50/50 split folding third row and an electric handbrake.
The new Caddy Life’s has a strong dominance on the road, and also comes with the option to include new 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, improved, brighter headlights and electric closing aid for tailgate and sliding doors.
