Car Maintenance

Here at Swansway Motor Group we've put together a list of our top pointers to keep your car running just as it should.

Car maintenance is essential in ensuring it performs at its very best keeping it going for as long as possible and avoiding any expensive repair bills. A car that is maintained is safer, better on fuel efficiency, and overall cheaper to run.

What are important areas to maintain on my car?

Brakes

Your brakes are the most important safety feature of your vehicle, this is why brake fluid must be replaced every 2 years, regardless of your mileage, and we recommend you regularly inspect your pads and discs for excess wear and tear as you can’t always notice when they are starting to reduce in performance.

Timing

Changing your cambelt, you may well be asking yourself what is a cambelt and why it needs to be changed. The cambelt is in control of the timing which is crucial to your engine’s performance. This is why you should never put off changing your cambelt, as you could cost yourself as the belt can go slack, which then causes it to jump or snap and this then damages your engine.

Tyres

With tyres we recommended you check them every 2 weeks to check for nails or objects in the tyre, that tread is within the legal limit, and for any other wear and tear.

A helpful tool which you can use is a tyre pressure monitor or gauge this can help give you information on whether you need to inflate or reduce the pressure in your tyres to maintain safety when driving your vehicle.

Battery

Checking your battery will help reduce the chance that you could encounter a fault in the future. Some easy checks to perform include inspecting the battery for any damage, there aren’t any blockages around the battery, and that it’s still held down firmly in its holder.

Car maintenance checklist

We advise you regularly check these six areas on your car as this can help you spot any potential warning signs for problems that if left could cause damage to other areas and components.

  • Oil
  • Fuel
  • Water
  • Electrics
  • Lights
  • Rubber
