The 308 is a stylish five-door family hatchback from Peugeot that handles well and provides a comfortable ride. Access to the rear is superb and its vast boot puts most of its rivals to shame. The 308 is available in three grades: Access, Active and Allure.
The 308 is appealingly styled with a front grille bisected by a colour-coded bumper that incorporates LED daytime running lights. LEDs characterise the vehicle’s rear claw-styled lamps too. Other attractive features include tinted rear side and tailgate windows. The 308 comes in a Hurricane Grey hue. Other liveries available as an option include Bianca White, Nera Black, Ultimate Red and Magnetic Blue.
Front-row passengers benefit from height-adjustable seating, and the driver can also enjoy the assured control provided by power-assisted steering. A range of standard features include air conditioning, power-operated windows and remote-controlled central locking. A 470-litre boot should be big enough in most instances, but if you require more capacity simply fold the rear seats to increase this volume to 1,309 litres.
Entry-level Access trims come with a choice of engines, both paired with five-speed manual gearboxes. A 1.2-litre 81bhp unit delivers up to 56.5mpg and a CO2 emissions figure of 114g/km. A 1.6-litre 98bhp diesel alternative returns as much as 78.5mpg and CO2 emissions as low as 94g/km.
To keep you and your fellow passengers entertained, a CD player and a DAB digital radio are included, the latter providing a wide range of stations in crystal-clear sound quality. Bluetooth connectivity and USB and AUX ports are also a standard feature.
The 308 comes with a five-star safety rating, as awarded by Euro NCAP. Driver aids include Cruise Control with Speed Limiter, Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Emergency Braking Assist and Electronic Stability Programme. Three-point inertia-reel seatbelts and multiple airbags are among the passive safety features included.
