Charging EVs Without a Driveway

One of the issues some customers may have when considering an electric vehicle is where they are going to charge their car if they don’t have a driveway. One of the advantages of EVs is that you no longer need to go out specially to top up with fuel - you can charge your car from home. However, if you don’t own or have access to a driveway, charging overnight can become more difficult. There are more ways that you can charge without an EV without a driveway and these include:

Charging an EV on the go

With the UK infrastructure for EVs becoming more convenient, there are now many places that support electric car charging - supermarkets, service stations on the motorway and various car parks. You can use websites or apps such as Zapmap, which details all of the charging points throughout the country. This means you can charge on the go, which is ideal for those who commute.

Charging on a residential car park or street

If you’re just travelling to the shops during the day, most car parks will have charging points so that you can charge your car as you're running your errands. If you’re in a busier part of the city where car parks are slightly more difficult to come by, some street parking have charging points and even lamp posts that can help you charge your car to ensure you can keep your car topped up no matter where you are.

Charging an EV at work

If you work a 9 to 5, many companies now offer charging points at their car parks (should they have one). As you’re at work all day, it gives you the perfect opportunity to use those hours to charge your vehicle. For those who don’t have charging points at work, speak to HR or your manager as there are sometimes grants available.

Charging your electric vehicle at the shops

If you need to go to the supermarket for your weekly shop, many supermarket car parks are now changing their infrastructure to include charging car parking spaces for EVs. Although you may not be at the shops for long, it’s perfect for short charging or as a quick top-up.
