What do we look for in an IT Technician?

Being an IT technician at Swansway is an important job. Therefore the ability to work through issues in a logical manner is key. You need to able to find faults and deal with them in a logical way, as well as being able to explain these problems in a non-technical way to other members of staff.

What skills would I need to join the team?

There are a few key skills that are required when joining the IT team. Here’s a quick list of the essential skills you need:

  • Excellent fault finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Knowledge of current pc, server and network technologies.
  • Installing new software
  • Installing new hardware (servers, printers, computer workstations, etc.)
  • Setting up user accounts, permissions and passwords Overseeing security of all systems, especially the internet, and installing antivirus protection
  • Fixing network faults
  • Network maintenance
  • Technical support for people using the network
  • Day to day admin and monitoring of network use
  • Planning future improvements, suggesting IT solutions to business problems
