At that time I was a part-time receptionist, at L C Charles Volkswagen as it was back then; doing 16 hours a week, spread between evenings and Saturdays.
After a few years I was offered the opportunity to join the Service Department, which I did, increasing my hours to full-time. While I was working in Service my youngest son was diagnosed with diabetes, he was just five years old and so it was impossible to continue the hours that I was working; I needed and wanted to be at home, every day, when he finished school.
I asked my Service Manager at the time if I could alter my hours to finish at 3pm, Peter Smyth came back to me to let me know this was fine, which was such a relief. The Service Department was my home for 6 years and then I took on the Warranty role, which I’ve now done for almost 9 years.
Whilst I’ve been looking after warranty work we’ve had five manufacturer audits, two on VW commercials and three on VW passenger cars and all with no debits; that’s something I’m really proud of.
In the years I’ve worked for Swansway I’ve passed my Warranty accreditations; been awarded Silver and Gold long service pins gained and I’ve Just come back from Wolfsburg, Germany, the home of Volkswagen; I was invited for my graduation event and the trip included a factory visit. It was a fantastic trip and a great insight into Volkswagen, a must if you get the chance.
So much time’s now passed by that my children are now grown up and I’m a grandma to Rosie!
