Mark, who joined Wrexham Volkswagen three years ago believes his eagerness to learn has helped him gain this promotion so early in his career; as he explained, “I’ve always had an interest in cars and engineering, but, without a real plan for my future.
“I was working in factory jobs, looking after machinery and thought that maybe an apprenticeship would be a good way to go. I applied for the Apprentice Technician role at Wrexham Volkswagen, got the job and I’ve never looked back”.
He’s undertaken and passed all the training to become a fully Qualified Technician and is now just waiting for his certificate; Mark added, “The training has been amazing, the Volkswagen facilities in Milton Keynes are just fantastic and I’ve learnt such a lot. I’ve also been on Swansway courses, I’m most proud of the Dale Carnegie course on Effective Communications and Human Relations that I completed. Something well out of my comfort zone, so I was proud to be given the High Achiever award for the whole course”!
Mark is thoroughly enjoying his new role and John McFall, Aftersales Manager at the dealership commented, “Mark is an impressive young man. In the three years he’s been with us he’s not had a single day off sick and never once been late. He has a thirst for knowledge and a real desire to succeed and I’m delighted that he he’s taken so well to his new role”.
The Workshop Controller’s role is a varied one, including explaining work undertaken to customers and allocating work to technicians based on their particular strengths; Mark added, “This role could have made for me, I enjoy every part of it and it’s certainly given me the desire to go further within Swansway. Next stop Service Manager and then who knows”!
