You may ask what could damage your paint?

Bird droppings and tree sap can corrode and eat away at your paint so its best to remove these quickly. In winter rock salt helps with safety but it also rusts and damages the undercarriage of your vehicle and being careful when using ice removal tools as these can scratch your paintwork.
