Similar to the Audi S6 TDI and the S7 TDI, the Audi S4 has a diesel engine with plenty of power and torque, and while it is smaller than the S6 and S7 TDI models, the Audi S4 still boasts a 3-litre V6 TDI engine and develops the same 344bhp at 3850rpm, and no less torque, with a massive 516lb ft available between 2500 and 3100rpm. It’s pretty impressive for a small car.

In its saloon form, the S4 can do 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds which is two-tenths quicker than the Audi S6 Avant and just a tenth shy of the old S4. However, both cars reach an electronically limited 155mph. Power is sent through an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission and Quattro all-wheel-drive system with the self-locking center.

The Audi S4 also features a 48V electrical system, mild-hybrid technology, and an electric compressor to supplement the conventional turbocharger. The hybrid tech uses a belt-driven starter-alternator to allow for start-stop functionality and engine-off coasting, while the latter is said to improve throttle response.

All versions of the S4 have their transmission mounted immediately at the rear of the engine in a longitudinal orientation, in the form of a transaxle, and like all Audi "S" cars, are only available as standard with Audi's Quattro four-wheel drive (4WD) system, using a Torsen-based center differential system. The S4 also has a 10.1-inch central touchscreen on the dashboard and from the outside features such as LED headlights are fitted as standard and standard 18" wheels with 245/40 tyres.
