New Audi A6 TFSI e

The Audi A6 is go-to choice in the premium car segment. Traditionally powered by silky diesel or petrol engines, Audi has chosen to infuse its popular A6 with hybrid tech in the new A6 TFSI e. Incorporating a petrol-electric powertrain designed to offer lower running costs and reduced emissions, it’s an A6 for those who fancy a luxurious car with electric assistance. Let’s see what it’s like.

A6 TFSI e Trim Levels

A6 TFSI e Sport

Base cars get plenty of equipment as standard, with highlights including 18-inch alloy wheels, the previously-mentioned dual-screen infotainment system and the Virtual Cockpit display.

You also get Amazon Alexa functionality as standard, which allows you to use the voice assistant in the car just as you might through smart devices at home.

A6 TFSI e S Line

S Line’s most notable addition is a full sport interior, along with a sporty exterior styling pack. You also get larger 19-inch alloy wheels in a contrasting grey colour and full Matrix LED headlights with dynamic rear indicators.

Sport suspension is also fitted as part of the S Line package, dropping the ride height and giving the car a sportier feel.

A6 TFSI e Sport

Black Edition cars get even larger 20-inch alloy wheels as well as a full black exterior styling pack which brings gloss black elements to areas such as the front grille and window surrounds.

In addition, you also get a sporty flat-bottomed multifunction steering wheel as an addition to the cabin too.

A6 TFSI e Vorsprung

As the tip-top trim, Vorsprung receives all of the bells and whistles you could possibly want. A full panoramic glass sunroof comes as standard, as do HD matrix LED headlights, a full Bang & Olufsen sound system and a range of driver assistance systems.

Audi’s Tour Pack is also added, which brings features such as adaptive cruise control and traffic sign recognition, among other touches.

Interior design

The interior of the standard A6 is a smart place to be on its own, so it’ll come as no surprise that the cabin in the hybrid version is just as upmarket. High-quality materials sit alongside plenty of screens to deliver a clever combination of new-school tech and old-school fit-and-finish.

There’s plenty of legroom in the back too, while estate versions can deliver up to 405 litres of boot space rising to 1,535 litres with the rear seats folded flat.

Exterior design

The exterior of this hybrid A6 is near-identical to that of the regular car, which is no bad thing at all as it’s a great piece of design. An excellent evolution of Audi’s design, it’s packed with telltale features such as the large front grille and sweeping roofline which are synonymous with cars from the German brand.

The LED headlights on the A6 TFSI e also help the car to stand out, while the dynamic lights at the rear really do make an impact at night too.

The A6 is a car which is practically bristling with technology. When it comes to the cabin, you’ve got a dual-screen setup made up of two screens housed in the centre of the cabin. The top one deals with satellite navigation and media functions, while the lower one manages air conditioning and other climate functions. It’s a very impressive setup, and one which is remarkably easy to get on with too.

There’s also Audi’s excellent Virtual Cockpit display system, which sits in the place of the traditional dials. It’s configurable too, so you can get it to relay various bits of information such as the satellite navigation and media selection as well as ‘usual’ data such as speed and MPG.

Meshing together petrol and electric performance is a great way of giving a car a little more punch while also helping in the economy and emissions departments. This A6 hybrid is available in two states of tune - badged 50 and 55 - with the former producing 249bhp and the latter 362bhp. They both use the same turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine, however, linked to an electric motor.

Both cars can travel for up to 34 miles on electric power alone at speeds of up to 84mph. However, either one is no slouch, reaching 60mph from a dead stop in just 5.3 seconds. Charging will take around 2.5 hours via a domestic wallbox.
