Understated elegance optimises the A4 Allroad quattro. Unlike other SUVs, it has a sleek body shape and a front profile that mirrors all other models in the Audi line-up. LED Xenon headlights mean a car that’s designed for tough terrains manages to maintain a sophisticated look. Yet it stands out as the most rugged model in the range. This is partly down to the metallic skid plate on the bumper which gives it a muscular edge. It has a solid stance too, with a 23mm increase in road clearance and an extra 34mm of height compared to the first-generation version. This extra height also means the driver enjoys an elevated seating position.
Inside you will find lots of technological features that are cleverly arranged to avoid a cluttered feel. The central screen is in your line of sight, thanks to its favourable position on the dashboard in line with the top of the steering wheel. True to Audi’s ergonomic interior design, the buttons and controls are neatly placed around the steering wheel, on the dashboard and on the centre console. Expect first-rate practicality with 505 litres of boot space.
In all trim levels but the standard variant, you can opt to upgrade the infotainment to include a colour screen on the central console which plays host to the audio systems. Even the most basic of upgrades includes a CD changer with capacity for six disks, an SD memory card reader, AUX-IN and USB port. You could also opt for the Bang and Olufsen sound system, boasting 14 loudspeakers and dynamic noise compensation which modifies the volume to the engine revs.
To help keep your A4 Allroad quattro free from any scratches or scuffs, you can choose to add the Audi Parking System Plus. This useful piece of kit warns you with audible alerts and signs on the screen if you are getting too close to obstacles while parking.
Standard on all models is an Electronic Stability Programme which helps to you to maintain a steady pace when cruising around sharp corners. You can choose to add adaptive lights which illuminate the course on bends, making it easier to stay on track. Audi Side Assist is another optional upgrade that warns you if there is a potential hazard in your blind spot for easier and safer overtaking. .
Despite its robust size, the A4 Allroad quattro is beautifully swift. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine delivers 187bhp, taking you from 0-60mph in less than eight seconds. It has a top speed of 137mph and, as an all-wheel drive, it is fully-responsive in all weather conditions.
