£25,000 DONATION FOR CREWE YMCA

CREWE YMCA HAS RECEIVED A £25,000 DONATION FROM LOCAL, FAMILY OWNED BUSINESS, SWANSWAY GROUP AND IT’S ALL THANKS TO THE CREWE PLEDGE.

The Crewe Pledge first birthday celebrations took place at South Cheshire College, where David Smyth, Swansway Group director, presented a cheque for £25,000 to Richard Holmes, Crewe YMCA Development & Quality Manager.

A delighted Richard explained, “We were introduced to Swansway at a Crewe Pledge meeting and they were keen to learn more about our work and to find a way they could support us. Working together we came up with the Swansway Talentscape Programme, designed to introduce our young people to the world of work.”

“It’s important to remember that the young people we support may not always have the usual family network around them; taking the first steps into work needs some coaching and confidence and Talentscape will do that for them,” continued Richard.

“With the funding from Swansway, we’ve been able to employ Hannie Renshall as our dedicated Talentscape coach. Hannie will find local businesses who are able to offer experience in the workplace to our young people; she will coach and support them, helping them to find their feet and gain a positive experience, which will build self-esteem and enhance their life skills. I can’t thank Swansway enough for supporting this new initiative, it’s been just what we needed”, added Richard.

Karen Walker from Swansway Group, met Richard at a Crewe Pledge meeting, held at the YMCA, she commented, “As soon as I walked into the YMCA I was struck by how well cared for the place was and when I met Richard, his passion and enthusiasm just blew me away. As a family owned and run business, we focus our charitable giving towards children and young people, so, Richard’s Talentscape vision was something I knew the Smyth family, who own and operate the business, would be keen to support”.

Swansway has four sites in Crewe, including their Head Office, Accident Repair Centre and dealerships retailing Volkswagen, Audi and SEAT cars, with a new Jaguar site under construction on the Crewe Green roundabout. Director David Smyth explained, “We already have over fifty apprentices across the group; we’re always keen to give youth a chance, to encourage youngsters to reach their potential; however, some of the young people at the YMCA aren’t ready for apprenticeships yet, they need a helping hand and we’re delighted to partner with the YMCA and offer that hand”.

Crewe YMCA are asking for any local businesses, able to give a few days’ work experience to contact them on 01270 257673or email rholmes@creweymca.com
