The Wingate Centre

The Swansway Group is proud to continue its support to The Wingate Centre, Nantwich, with donations now in excess of £12,500.

Wingate’s Special Children’s Trust is dedicated to enriching the lives of children and young adults with all levels of disabilities, both learning and physical, or who are disadvantaged. The charity has been providing life-changing support to children for 25 years through short stay residential breaks and recreational sports facilities.

Swansway’s donation has not only fully funded the creation of the new sensory room, specially designed for children living with the most extreme levels of disability but, after a mammoth expedition up Mount Elbrus, Russia, alongside Crewe Hall Leisure Club Assistant Manager, Adam Swiniarski, the group has also been able to find a head tilt bed.

David Smyth, director of Swansway Group, said: “We met the team at the Wingate Centre and were amazed by the hard work they do. They improve the lives of so many children, and we’re delighted to support them as family values lie at the heart of our business too.”

The centre offers short residential breaks for groups from 8-50 with a whole range of disabilities, and over 1,000 children each year benefit from staying at the centre. It features a fully equipped gymnasium, opened in 1992, and The Reiber Hall, a multi-activity room, opened last year. These host recreational sports facilities for local disability organisations, day centres and special schools. Chris Bridgeman, manager of the Wingate Centre, said: “Swansway’s incredible generosity has enabled us to bring this much needed project of a new sensory room to fruition”.

The sensory room, opened in March 2013 has received so much great feedback that David decided to further support the charity with the Elbrus climb.

Swansway Group Director, David and Adam from Crewe Hall embarked on the 8 day expedition up Mount Elbrus, Russia, to reach the summit at 5,642m, that’s 18,700ft. The trip was a huge success and has enabled children, who would have otherwise been unable to stay at The Wingate Centre, the opportunity to with their new head tilt bed.
